GPA = total grade points ÷ total credits, where each course contributes its grade-point value times its credit hours. Courses with more credits influence the GPA more.

What this GPA calculator does
A GPA calculator turns your letter grades and credit hours into a single grade point average. Each grade maps to points on a 4.0 scale, and courses with more credits count proportionally more.
How GPA is calculated
GPA = total grade points ÷ total credits
grade points for a course = grade value × credit hours
For an A (4.0) worth 3 credits, a B (3.0) worth 4 credits and a C (2.0) worth 2 credits, the GPA is (12 + 12 + 4) ÷ 9 = 3.11.

Why credit hours matter
GPA is a weighted average, not a simple one. A top grade in a 4-credit course moves your GPA more than the same grade in a 1-credit course, so credits are essential to an accurate result.
How to use the GPA calculator
Add a row for each course (a name is optional).
Choose the letter grade and enter the credit hours.

GPA FAQ
How do I calculate my GPA?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by total credits. For example, (12 + 12 + 4) ÷ 9 credits = a 3.11 GPA.
What is the 4.0 GPA scale?
A common scale where A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0 and F = 0, with plus and minus grades in between (A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, and so on).
Why are credit hours included?
GPA is a weighted average, so a grade in a higher-credit course affects it more. Without credits, the result would just be a simple average of grades.
What's a good GPA?
It varies by school and goal, but broadly: 3.7+ is excellent, 3.0–3.6 is solid, and below 2.0 often falls short of good standing. Check your institution's thresholds.
Does this handle weighted (honors/AP) GPAs?
This uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale. Some schools add points for honors or AP courses; check your school's policy for those adjustments.
Is the GPA calculator free?
Yes, this GPA calculator is completely free, needs no sign-up, and gives instant results in your browser.
