Circumference Calculator

Find a circle’s circumference fast. Enter the radius, diameter, area or circumference and this free calculator solves all the rest using C = 2πr = πd and A = πr².

Enter any one value

Fill in any one of radius, diameter, circumference or area, and the calculator works out the rest. Clear a field to enter a different one.

Circumference is the distance around a circle: C = 2πr = πd. The area is A = πr². Results use units consistent with your input (e.g. cm in → cm out, cm² for area).

How the Circumference Calculator Works

This tool finds a circle’s circumference from whichever single measurement you already know — radius, diameter, circumference, or area — and fills in the rest automatically. You only ever need to enter one value.

Formula: Circumference (C) = 2 × π × radius (r) = π × diameter (d). Area (A) = π × r^2. If you enter the area instead, the calculator first solves for the radius (r = √(A ÷ π)) and then computes C = 2πr. If you enter the diameter, r = d ÷ 2 and C = πd directly.

  • r — Radius, the distance from the center of the circle to its edge
  • d — Diameter, the distance across the circle through its center (twice the radius)
  • C — Circumference, the distance around the circle
  • A — Area, the space enclosed by the circle

Circumference Calculator FAQ

Can I enter the diameter instead of the radius?Yes. The calculator accepts any single one of radius, diameter, circumference, or area, and solves for the rest — you don’t need to convert diameter to radius yourself first.
How is area related to circumference? Both come from the same radius: circumference is 2πr while area is πr². If you enter the area, the calculator works backward to find the radius first (r = √(A ÷ π)), then derives the circumference from it.
What if I only know the area, not the radius or diameter?Enter the area in the Area (A) field and leave the others blank. The calculator solves for radius and diameter first, then reports the circumference.
Do units matter when I enter a value?Yes, in the sense that whatever unit you enter in (cm, inches, meters) is the unit the output uses — the calculator doesn’t convert between units, just computes the geometric relationship.
What’s the difference between circumference and area?Circumference is a length — the distance around the circle’s edge (measured in units like cm). Area is a surface measurement — the space enclosed inside the circle (measured in squared units like cm²).
Can I enter more than one field at once? The calculator is designed around a single known value at a time. Clear the other fields before entering a new one so the calculation isn’t ambiguous about which value to solve from.

Once you have a circle’s dimensions worked out, the area calculator can handle other shapes beyond circles if your project needs it. If your circle is part of a triangle-based layout, the triangle calculator solves sides and angles the same way this tool solves circle measurements, and for roofing or siding jobs the roof area calculator extends the same geometry to sloped surfaces.
