Count the days between dates with this free tool. It shows the exact number of days from one date to another, plus weeks, approximate months and a years-months-days breakdown, with an optional inclusive count.
Pick two dates to see exactly how many days are between them. By default this counts the days from one date to the other; tick the box to include both endpoints.
The day count is the number of nights from the earlier date to the later date. Ticking “inclusive” adds one, which is how you count every calendar day in a span (such as a trip or event) rather than the gaps between them.
What This Days Between Dates Calculator Does
Pick a start and end date, and this calculator works out the exact number of days between them, along with a weeks-and-days breakdown, total weeks, an approximate month count, and a calendar-based years-months-days breakdown.
Exclusive vs Inclusive Counting
By default, this calculator counts the number of nights between the two dates – the gap between them. Ticking “inclusive” adds one to that count, which is how you’d count every calendar day within a span, such as the total number of days of a vacation or event that includes both the arrival and departure day.
A Worked Example
From January 15 to March 10 in the same year is 55 days – or 7 weeks and 6 days. Broken into calendar units, that’s 1 month and 24 days, or equivalently 0 years, 1 month, 24 days.
Why the Years-Months-Days Breakdown Uses Calendar Months
Unlike a simple division by 30, this calculator’s years-months-days breakdown respects actual calendar month lengths – including leap years – so a span crossing February in a leap year correctly accounts for that extra day rather than assuming every month is the same length.
Why “Approximate Months” Is Labeled as Approximate
The total months figure divides the day count by an average month length, which is useful for a rough sense of scale but won’t always match the calendar-based years-months-days breakdown exactly, since real months vary between 28 and 31 days.
Common Uses for This Calculator
This calculator is useful for counting days until a deadline or event, calculating the length of a trip or stay, working out someone’s exact age in days, tracking project timelines, or figuring out contract or lease durations.

Getting the Right Count of Days Between Dates
Most disagreements about the days between dates come down to one question: do you count the first day, the last day, or both?
- Nights for a hotel or rental: use the standard exclusive count. Checking in on the 10th and out on the 14th is 4 nights.
- Events, leave periods or project phases where the start and end day both count: switch on the inclusive option, which adds one day.
- Deadlines such as “30 days from” a notice: legal and business rules differ on whether day one is included, so check the wording before relying on the days between dates figure.
Weeks are exact (days divided by 7), but months are not, because they run from 28 to 31 days. Quote the days between dates when precision matters, and keep the years-months-days breakdown for readable summaries. Business days are a separate count: the days between dates shown here include weekends and public holidays. The Gregorian calendar article on Wikipedia explains the leap-year rules behind every count of days between dates.
