From a birth date
Write the full date as digits and add them together, then keep adding the digits of the total until one digit remains. For 14 July 1992, that is 1+4+0+7+1+9+9+2 = 33, and 3+3 = 6. Some traditions stop at 11, 22 or 33 and call them “master numbers”, which is why different sites can give different answers for the same birthday.
From a name
Each letter is given a value, the values are summed, and the total is reduced the same way. The popular Pythagorean system simply counts A=1 to I=9 and starts again at J. The older Chaldean system assigns values differently. Spelling, middle names and nicknames all change the total, so decide which version of your name you want to use before comparing results. Some practitioners use the name on your birth certificate, others the name you use every day; neither is more “correct”, they are simply different conventions. Trying both is a harmless way to see how sensitive the method is to small changes, which is itself a good reminder of why the result should not be taken literally.
