How the Square Footage Calculator Works
This tool adds up the area of one or several rectangular spaces — a room, a wall, or an odd-shaped floor split into simpler sections — and converts the total into square feet, square metres and square yards, plus an estimated cost if you know a price per unit area.
Formula: Area (per row) = Length × Width, using whichever unit mode is selected (feet, feet + inches, or metres). In feet + inches mode, each dimension is converted to decimal feet first: Feet + (Inches ÷ 12). Total area = the sum of every row’s area. Square metres = Total (ft²) × 0.09290304, or Total (m²) directly if metres was the input unit. Square yards = Square feet ÷ 9. Estimated cost = Total area (in the entered unit) × Price per unit area.
