What this gold price calculator shows you
A gold price calculator turns a quantity of gold into its market value. Enter the current spot price per troy ounce, the weight (in grams, ounces, kilograms and more) and the karat purity, and it returns the gold value, the pure gold content and the price per gram.
How gold value is calculated
Value = Weight in grams × Purity × (Spot price ÷ 31.1035)
Gold is priced per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). The calculator converts your weight to grams, multiplies by the purity for your karat, and applies the per-gram price. So 50g of 18K gold (75% pure) at a $2,350 spot price is worth about $2,833.

Spot price vs what a dealer pays
This calculator shows the raw metal value at spot. When you sell, dealers pay below spot (to make a margin); when you buy coins or bars you pay a premium above spot. Jewelry also carries making charges. So treat this as the underlying value, not the price you’ll be offered.
Gold Price Calculator FAQ
How do I calculate the value of gold?
Convert the weight to grams, multiply by the purity for its karat, then multiply by the per-gram spot price (spot per troy ounce ÷ 31.1035). For example, 50g of 18K gold at a $2,350 spot price is worth about $2,833.
Does this use the live gold price?
No. You enter today's spot price from a market source, so it works any time and stays private. Just paste in the current price per troy ounce.
What does karat mean?
Karat measures gold purity out of 24. 24K is 99.9% pure, 18K is 75%, 14K is 58.5% and 10K is 41.7%. Only the pure gold portion counts toward the metal value.
Why won't a dealer pay the calculated value?
This is the raw metal (spot) value. Dealers buy below spot to make a margin and sell coins or bars above spot, and jewelry carries making charges, so the offered price differs from this figure.
What's a troy ounce?
A troy ounce is the standard unit for precious metals and equals about 31.1035 grams — heavier than a regular (avoirdupois) ounce of 28.35 grams.
Is the gold price calculator free to use?
Yes, this gold price calculator is completely free, needs no sign-up, and gives instant results directly in your browser.
