How the Salary to Hourly Calculator Works
Converting between an annual salary and an hourly wage just means dividing (or multiplying) by how many hours you actually work in a year. This calculator lets you switch direction — salary to hourly, or hourly back to salary — and instantly breaks the result down into hourly, weekly, monthly, and annual figures.
Formula: Hourly Rate = Annual Salary ÷ (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year). Going the other direction: Annual Salary = Hourly Rate × (Hours per Week × Weeks per Year). Weekly pay = Hourly Rate × Hours per Week, and Monthly pay = Annual Salary ÷ 12.
- Annual salary — your gross yearly pay, used when converting salary → hourly
- Hourly rate — your gross pay per hour, used when converting hourly → salary
- Hours per week — how many hours you work in a typical week (defaults to 40 if left blank)
- Weeks per year — how many paid weeks you work per year (defaults to 52 if left blank)

Salary to Hourly Calculator FAQ
How many work weeks should I use if I get paid time off?
Use 52 if your salary already covers paid vacation and holidays, since you're still paid for those weeks. If you're hourly and unpaid for time off, subtract those weeks — for example, 50 weeks for two unpaid weeks off — to get a more accurate hourly rate.Does this calculator account for taxes?
No, both the salary and hourly figures here are gross amounts before taxes and any deductions. It's a straightforward conversion between pay periods, not a take-home pay estimate. What hours-per-week figure should I use for a typical full-time job?
Most full-time U.S. jobs use 40 hours per week as the standard, which is also this calculator's default. If your role has a different standard workweek — say 37.5 hours — enter that instead for an accurate conversion. How do I convert an hourly rate back into an annual salary?
Switch the toggle to "Hourly → Salary," enter your hourly rate, and confirm your hours per week and weeks per year. The calculator multiplies those three numbers together to give you the equivalent annual salary. Why might my actual paycheck differ from the hourly rate shown here?
This conversion is based only on gross pay and standard hours. Overtime, bonuses, unpaid leave, and irregular schedules can all make your real per-hour earnings differ from this straight-line calculation.Does part-time or variable-hours work affect the calculation?
Yes — the result is only as accurate as the hours per week you enter. If your hours vary significantly week to week, try using your average hours over a few months for a more representative hourly or annual figure.Related Calculators
