Weighted points

Your grade is each item’s score multiplied by its weight, summed, then divided by the total weight. If the weights add up to less than 100%, this shows your grade on the work completed so far.

What this grade calculator does

grade calculator combines your graded items into one weighted grade. Each item’s score is multiplied by its weight, the results are added, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights.

How a weighted grade is calculated

grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(weight)

With homework 90% (weight 20), a midterm 80% (weight 30) and a final 85% (weight 50), the grade is (1800 + 2400 + 4250) ÷ 100 = 84.5%.

Letter grade scale

Grade Calculator FAQ

How do I calculate my grade?

Multiply each item's score by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. For example, scores of 90, 80 and 85 weighted 20, 30 and 50 give 84.5%.

Do the weights have to add up to 100%?

No. If they total less than 100%, the calculator shows your grade on the work done so far — handy before the semester ends.

What letter grade is my percentage?

On a common scale, 90+ is an A range, 80s a B, 70s a C, 60s a D, and below 60 an F. The calculator shows the matching letter.

How do I calculate a grade with different weightings?

Enter each component's weight as given in your syllabus — for instance homework 20%, midterm 30%, final 50% — and the calculator weights them accordingly.

Can I see what I need on remaining work?
